Black Myth Wukong on Xbox Gets a Release Date, PlayStation’s 1-Year Exclusivity Ends

After much speculation and a few raised eyebrows, it’s now official: Black Myth Wukong on Xbox is happening, and it’ll be cheaper than on other platforms. Developer Game Science has confirmed that the Xbox version of the highly anticipated action RPG will launch when the PlayStation and PC versions get discounted on August 20. Black Myth Wukong on Xbox was delayed, with the devs citing “optimisation” issues as the main culprit. Translation: it’s going to take a little longer to iron things out before Monkey King swings onto Microsoft’s platform.

We’ve seen this before, a timed console exclusive that leaves Xbox players waiting in the wings. Based on the current roadmap, Black Myth Wukong on Xbox was supposed to come out way back in August 2024, but the Xbox Series S and its limited RAM were the main reasons it couldn’t happen back then. Apparently, those flaws have magically evaporated now.

This PlayStation exclusivity window is a major win for Sony, especially considering Black Myth Wukong has been generating quite a lot of interest since it first exploded onto the internet with that flashy UE5 trailer and its Soulslike vibes. The game blends traditional Chinese mythology with hard-hitting action and looks to be a visual spectacle.

The game hasn’t gone on sale since its release, and this is finally the time when a lot of people will pull the trigger and give it a shot. It was a success both critically and commercially on release, and that isn’t expected to change on the Xbox version.

No word yet on whether Black Myth Wukong on Xbox will hit Game Pass when it eventually launches, but given Microsoft’s recent moves, it wouldn’t be a total shock. Until then, Xbox fans can only watch from afar as their PlayStation pals dive into Game Science’s dark fantasy. Let’s just hope the extra polish makes the wait worthwhile
