After you’ve figured out the keyboard controls for Hollow Knight, you need to know how to unlock Silksong map. Exploring Pharloom in Hollow Knight Silksong can be overwhelming. Just like Roblox Arise Crossover map and other guides, we’ve got you covered. The kingdom is full of twisting passages and maze-like areas where it’s easy to lose your way. Just like in the original game, Hornet won’t start with a map. Instead, you’ll need to unlock it early in your journey.
This Silksong map guide will explain exactly how to unlock Silksong map, where to find the map merchant, and how to keep expanding your maps as you progress.
How to Unlock Silksong Map

Find the Map Merchant

You won’t begin the game with a map, which can make the early areas confusing. Thankfully, the opening path is straightforward, and the first opportunity to unlock a map comes fairly early.
After defeating your first boss in the Moss Grotto and passing through Bone Bottom town, you’ll reach Pharloom’s second region: The Marrow.
Here’s what to do:
- Enter the large lava-filled chamber.
- Head upward and to the left until you reach a tall shaft with crumbling ledges that reform after a short time.
- Climb to the top, then take the left passage.
- Keep moving left until you hear singing.
When you notice bug corpses and copper rings, you’ll know you’re close. This is where you meet Shakra, a warrior monk and skilled cartographer. Shakra is the key to unlocking and upgrading your maps. She sells them for Rosary Beads, along with several useful items.
Shakra’s Shop Inventory

Item Sold (Price) | Description |
---|---|
Mosslands Map (40 Rosary Beads) | Unlocks the central map of Moss Grotto. |
The Marrow Map (50 Rosary Beads) | Unlocks the central map of The Marrow. |
Quill (50 Rosary Beads) | Lets Hornet update purchased maps with new areas you explore (when resting at a bench). |
Compass (70 Rosary Beads) | A Yellow Tool that shows your exact location on the map when holding LB/L1. |
Bench Pins (60 Rosary Beads) | Automatically marks benches and resting spots on purchased maps. |
Shell Marker (40 Rosary Beads) | Adds nine custom markers you can place manually while resting at a bench. |
Shakra appears in multiple regions across Pharloom, so you’ll be able to keep buying new maps as you move forward. Keep in mind: the Quill only works on maps you’ve already purchased, so buy the base map of each region first before getting the Quill.
Once you own a map, you can check it at benches or open it during exploration by holding L1/LB. Uncharted areas will only be filled in after you rest at a bench. If you’re still struggling to navigate, the Compass is a must-buy since it tracks your exact position.
How to Get Rosary Beads to Buy Maps

Every item from Shakra requires Rosary Beads, and you probably won’t have enough to buy everything right away. Luckily, there are several ways to collect more:
- Exploration: Look for beads hidden in the environment. They might be hanging from ceilings, wrapped around statues, or buried in piles. Hit them with your weapon to make them drop.
- Enemy Drops: Beast-like enemies drop Shell Shards instead of beads. To farm Rosary Beads, focus on humanoid-style enemies.
One of the best early farming spots is the room left of Shakra in the Moss Grotto. Here you’ll find corrupted pilgrim bugs that drop beads when defeated. After clearing the room, use the nearby bench to respawn the enemies and keep farming until you can buy everything Shakra offers.
