Death Defiance in Hades 2 is one of the coolest powers players can unlock in the game, as it grants you the ability to get extra lives in Hades 2. The popular sequel to Supergiant Games’ roguelike action role-playing game, available on Steam for early access, is already hard for many, and completing the game with one life seems like a “Herculean” task. After following our Hades 2: How to get Death Defiance guide, you will likely fare much better.
Why You Need to Get Extra Lives in Hades 2
Hades 2 has so many great powers for Melinoe to unlock, and Death Defiance is but one of them. It allows you a do-over once you’ve died. Even though this sequel feels easier than the previous title, death is a bit of an inevitability in roguelike games. Unfortunately, we’ve only uncovered one way you can unlock this necessary power.
Hades 2 is currently available in its earliest stages of Early Access, so this is one method we’ve found on how to get Death Defiance in Hades 2 for now, but there will probably be more after the full release. Here’s what you’ll have to do to get extra lives in Hades 2.
How to Get Death Defiance in Hades 2
To acquire Death Defiance, players must navigate the intricate system of Arcana Cards, which becomes accessible after completing their initial run in the game. Upon returning to the hub area following a defeat, players can locate a meditation spot south of Odysseus, where they can unlock and activate Arcana Cards, specifically the Eternity Tarot Card.
Tarot Cards, including Death Defiance, are accessible at Melinoe’s altar, situated just before the Silver Pools. However, unlocking Death Defiance requires a considerable investment of resources, costing 20 Ashes to unlock separately. Additionally, players must have a neighboring card unlocked to access Death Defiance within the Arcana Card system.
Activate and Upgrade Death Defiance
Upon unlocking Death Defiance, players are bestowed with one charge that is triggered whenever you die, and give you a second lease on life. However, players can further enhance the potency of Death Defiance through upgrades available later in the game.
Upgrading Death Defiance involves investing resources, with the first upgrade costing 6 Moon Dust and subsequent upgrades requiring 12 Moon Dust and 1 Star Dust. These upgrades increase the number of charges of Death Defiance, allowing players to respawn multiple times and persist in the face of adversity, prolonging each run. It’s important to note that these upgrades do not affect the amount of health restored upon activation, which remains at 40%.
While Death Defiance offers a valuable safety net for players, its usage should be strategic. Some players may opt for the challenge of navigating the game without relying on extra lives, while others may find it indispensable for tackling more challenging encounters. Ultimately, the decision to utilize Death Defiance rests with the player’s preferred playstyle and level of comfort.
