All You Need to Know About the Heavy Metal Event in Destiny 2

While we wait for the Ash and Iron release, the Heavy Metal event in Destiny 2 has arrived, and it’s unlike anything like the Guardians Games. Instead of the usual firefights on foot, this limited-time mode lets players climb into massive mechs or tanks and blast each other apart. It’s chaotic, over-the-top, and the perfect break from the grind of raids and dungeons. And yes—there are plenty of rewards to chase, including a brand-new combat Sparrow.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Heavy Metal event in Destiny 2.

How to Start the Heavy Metal Event in Destiny 2

You’ll need to launch the event through the Portal, not the Tower. This is where you’ll find all the daily and weekly challenges, plus the rewards track. Engrams containing new weapons are also shown here, so you know exactly what you’re working toward.

It’s important to note: loot only counts when you play through the Portal. If you’re used to launching from the Tower, skip it this time and head straight to the Portal to unlock progress and rewards.

Rewards in the Destiny 2 Heavy Metal Event

Like past events, Destiny 2 heavy metal brings back some familiar rewards, such as the Gryphon vehicle from before the expansion. But the real draw is the new weapon drops inside Engrams. Here are the highlights from the rewards track:

Synanceia (Solar Sword)

  • Origin Traits: Tenacity / Hakke Breach Armaments
  • Rolls: Tempered Edge (Blade), Balance Guard (Guard), Sharp Harvest (Enhanced Trait), Binary Orbit (Enhanced Trait)

Trachinus (Stasis Shotgun)

  • Origin Traits: Tenacity / Veist Stinger
  • Rolls: Smallbore (Barrel), Light Mag (Magazine), Lead From Gold (Enhanced Trait), Headstone (Enhanced Trait)

Alongside these, you can also spend Enhancement Cores and Glimmer to buy weapons and armor. Here’s the Focused Decoding lineup available:

  • Steel Sybil Z-14 (Void Sword)
  • Wishbringer (Solar Shotgun)
  • Last Perdition (Void Pulse Rifle)
  • Stars in Shadow (Solar Pulse Rifle)
  • The Keening (Arc Sidearm)
  • Frozen Orbit (Void Sniper Rifle)
  • Survivor’s Epitaph (Kinetic Hand Cannon)
  • Sorrow’s Verse (Arc Auto Rifle)
  • Crisis Inverted (Arc Hand Cannon)
  • Riptide (Stasis Fusion Rifle)
  • Out of Bounds (Arc SMG)
  • Blowout (Arc Rocket Launcher)
  • Randy’s Throwing Knife (Scout Rifle)
  • Unending Tempest (Stasis SMG)
  • Retrofuturist (Void Shotgun)
  • Better Devils (Strand Hand Cannon)
  • Anonymous Autumn (Arc Sidearm)
  • Joxer’s Longsword (Void Pulse Rifle)
  • Swordflight 4.1 Armor

On top of this, you can use event tokens in the Event Shop to buy Heavy Metal Engrams and other materials.

The Ultimate Reward in the Heavy Metal Event

While there are plenty of loot drops, the real prize of the event is the new combat Sparrow. Weapons from the shop are decent but nothing groundbreaking, so the best path is to keep grinding matches, earn tokens, and push through the rewards track until you unlock the Sparrow.
