Apart from exploring the Warden’s Vault and perfecting their Mage class build, players of developer BioWare’s fantasy RPG want to find and beat the Formless One in Dragon Age Veilguard. After you recruit Emmrich, you can head back to the Necropolis to tackle several side quests. One of these is the “Pinnacle of Its Kind” mission, where you need to deal with a demon that is about to break free.
This demon has split into three parts, and you must track down these pieces in different locations. Once you bring them back together, you will face the Formless One in Dragon Age Veilguard.

Dragon Age: Pinnacle of Its Kind Quest Guide
To start the “Pinnacle of Its Kind” quest, you need to finish the “Restless Spirit” mission from Emmrich. After you defeat enemies in the Chamber of the Unforged, you will encounter the Formless One in Dragon Age Veilguard for the first time. Although you can’t see its physical form, you can find out more about it from a text on a corpse in the area.
The demon is up to something, so Rook and their team must defeat the three shards of this demon in these locations:
- Dock Town – Spillway
- Arlathan Forest – Tattered Bridge
- Hossberg’s Wetlands – Solitude’s Edge
To summon the Formless One in Dragon Age Veilguard, you need to turn off the green fire in the marked area. The shards will appear shortly after, and they are the same type of monster but with different elements. The first is Necrotic, the second is Lightning, and the third is Fire. No matter where you start, you will always face the Necrotic demon first.
The demon will also call in several mobs to help it during the fights. The Necrotic demon is weak to Lightning, the Lightning demon is weak to Necrotic damage, and the Fire demon is weak to Ice. The shards are not too hard to defeat, but the Fire Demon can be tricky because it moves around the arena a lot.
How to Beat the Formless One in Dragon Age Veilguard
The Formless One in Dragon Age Veilguard will take over the body of a dragon to fight you. This boss is a Level 40 enemy and uses various Lightning attacks. The best element to use against it is Necrotic, so bring Emmrich and Lucanis to the battle. These two companions work well together and have many Necrotic abilities.
At the start of the fight, the dragon will fire several Lightning beams at you. Instead of dodging, try sprinting away to avoid these attacks. Staying close to the dragon is a good strategy, but be careful because it will sometimes jump into the air and land right on top of you.
Once you have reduced its health by a quarter, the Formless One will fly to a high ledge that you can’t reach. At this point, many undead creatures will appear in the arena, and the boss will shoot Lightning at you. Focus on dodging during this phase and avoid attacking.
Before coming back down, the demon will create a Lightning barrier around itself. You need to break this barrier to continue damaging its health. Use Heavy or Charged attacks to quickly destroy the shield. The boss will also start shooting a continuous laser beam from its mouth. The safest place to be is close to the boss, as the dragon can’t bend its neck far enough to hit you there.
When you bring the Formless One’s health down to less than half, it will fly back to the high ledge again. This phase will repeat, so keep attacking until the boss is defeated. Watch out for the mobs, as there will be even more of them in the arena.
After you defeat the Formless One in Dragon Age Veilguard, make sure to explore the area thoroughly. There are several treasure chests, including two large ones in the center. One of these chests contains a unique heavy armor called the Pillar of the Departed.
