1. Stock Up & Don’t Forget to Eat a Meal
Before you head out to face Arkveld in Monster Hunter Wilds, make sure to cook a meal. Eating boosts your Health and Stamina and gives you helpful buffs for the quest. In the Chained Arkveld quest, you’ll need to gather some ingredients to make your meals.
Go to the Camp, select ‘Grill a Meal’ in the ‘BBQ Menu,’ and choose ‘Custom Meal.’ A good combo is Meat + Droolshroom + Eastern Honey. This meal gives you +50 Health, +150 Stamina, and buffs like +2 Attack, Black Belt, and Medic, which help reduce stamina use while dodging and improve healing item effects.
While you’re at the Camp, don’t forget to stock up on Mega Potions, Flash Bombs, Traps, and other useful items.
2. Armor Sets
Mixing up your armor sets is important for this quest. Even though the Monster Hunter Wilds beta only offers a few options, they can still help you against Arkveld.
For example, wearing a 3-piece Doshaguma armor set gives you the Fortify skill, which increases your attack and damage each time you cart. Alternatively, using pieces of Hope armor provides Divine Blessing, which randomly reduces damage taken.
3. Utilize Vine Traps
In the early part of the fight, Arkveld will roam around the savanna. Look for Vine Traps hanging from trees. You can either pull them down with a Slinger or lure Arkveld under the trees to activate the traps. This is a great way to deal damage early on.
There’s also a large rock in the area that you can drop on Arkveld to inflict damage.
4. Shock & Pitfall Traps
Don’t forget to bring Shock and Pitfall Traps from the Camp. If you’re playing solo or with a friend, your Palico can also set them up. Arkveld can be trapped since it’s not an Elder Dragon, so capturing it instead of killing it can save you time.
Keep in mind that monsters build resistance to traps, so the more you use them, the shorter their effectiveness will be.
5. Free Damage with Sneak Attacks
If Arkveld flies away, it’s actually a good opportunity for you. When it moves to a new area, you can perform a Sneak Attack. Get close to Arkveld from behind and press B/O/Right Click to deal extra damage. This is especially useful in multiplayer, as your friends can attack while you perform the Sneak Attack.
6. Throwing Knives
Throwing Knives have a purpose in Monster Hunter Wilds. Equip them before the fight, as Arkveld has a dangerous unblockable grapple move. If you get caught by its chains, aim your Slinger at its face and shoot the Knife to escape. This will cause Arkveld to reel back in pain and let you go. You can also use Flash Bombs to interrupt its moves.

8. Keep Wounds Unbroken for Bonus Damage
When you attack Arkveld, you can inflict wounds on its body parts. Keeping these wounds active is beneficial because they take extra damage from regular attacks. Focus on damaging one spot, like its chains, to maximize your damage output.
9. Arkveld’s Chain Attacks to Avoid
Arkveld has several chain attacks that you need to watch out for:
- When enraged, its chain attacks glow with red energy.
- A red one-armed slam triggers a Power Clash.
- If it stands on two legs and stabs its chains into the ground, it will unleash a powerful explosive attack.

10. Don’t Jump In on Rey Dau and Arkveld’s Fight
