While hunting bounties like Blix is easy, players want to know to defeat Excavatron in Crimson Desert, one of the tougher early-game boss fights you’ll encounter in developers Pearl Abyss’s open-world action adventure game. Despite its mechanical look, Marni’s Excavatron is anything but harmless. This drilling machine hits hard, closes distance fast, and can punish careless movement in seconds.
Still, the fight becomes much easier once players understand its attacks, its stun window, and the safest strategy for ranged combat.
Players encounter Marni’s Excavatron, also known as the Stolen Quarry boss, during the House Roberts faction questline. More specifically, the battle takes place in the Stolen Quarry sub-quest. This mission becomes available early in the game after speaking with Leon Roberts at Bluemont Manor in Hernand.
Here is how to prepare for the fight and how to defeat the Excavatron in Crimson Desert without wasting resources.
How to Prepare for Excavatron in Crimson Desert

Because players can face Excavatron in Crimson Desert very early, even before beating the Reed Devil boss, it is easy to walk into the arena underprepared.
First, players should bring plenty of food that restores HP. Around 20 grilled pieces of meat should be enough for most attempts, which adds up to 2,800 HP restored.
Next, players should stock up on palmar pills. These can revive Kliff at 30% HP, which makes them extremely useful during a long boss fight. To craft more, players need the palmar pill recipe from Shadow’s Whisper Cave, which sits north of Hernand Castle. Once they have the recipe, they can use a cauldron and combine 15 medicinal herbs, such as lavender, peony, or marigold, with two water.
If players have enough reputation points, they should check the Hernand Contribution Shop for gear upgrades. Another solid option is to buy one or two pieces from the Canta Plate armor set at the equipment shop near Hernand Castle.
However, that option only opens after defeating Knight Matthias. After getting better gear, players should refine it at the smithy using iron and copper for extra defense and damage.
As for weapon choice, there is no strict requirement. A sword and shield is the safest setup, especially if players already have the Sword of the Lord from Hornsplitter. That said, two-handed weapons and dual weapons also work well because blocking is not the key to this fight.
More importantly, players should consider bringing a bow and a large stack of arrows. Ranged combat is one of the safest ways to defeat the Excavatron in Crimson Desert, especially for anyone struggling in melee. At Marksmanship level 1, players will need at least 200 arrows if they plan to win entirely from range.
Stamina is also critical. Players should upgrade stamina to at least level 4. Fast attacks are the best option during damage windows, so upgrading a skill like Forward Slash can help.
Even so, the most important skill in this encounter is Force Palm. Players do not need to level it up, but they do need access to it because it can stun the boss. As an alternative, Blinding Flash can serve the same purpose.
Where to Find Excavatron in Crimson Desert

Excavatron in Crimson Desert is found at Karin Quarry, northeast of Hernand Castle. There is also an abyss nexus just south of the boss arena, which makes travel easier before the fight.
As soon as players enter the arena, a short cutscene begins. Once it ends, they should be ready to dodge sideways immediately. Otherwise, the boss can land an early hit before the fight even settles.
How to Stun Excavatron in Crimson Desert

When Marni’s Excavatron angles both drills downward and starts burrowing into the ground, players have a brief chance to interrupt it. This is where Force Palm or Blinding Flash becomes important.
If timed correctly, either move can interrupt the dig and stun the boss. That creates a clean opening for free damage. However, the player needs to be fairly close for this to work. If the timing is missed, there is still no need to panic. Once underground, the boss charges beneath the surface. Players can track it by watching the moving mound of dirt. The safest answer is simply to back away until the move ends.
This stun window is one of the best ways to defeat the Excavatron in Crimson Desert more efficiently, so learning it makes the fight much easier.
The most dangerous move in the fight is the triple jump attack. Players can spot it by the red flash and the darkened screen. After that, Marni’s Excavatron dives underground again, but this version of the attack is much faster and more aggressive.

As soon as the attack begins, players should let stamina recover if needed and then sprint away the moment the charge starts. If they keep running, the boss should not be able to hit them. This is why stamina level 4 is so important.
If melee feels too dangerous, ranged combat is the easiest fallback. In fact, using a bow is the safest “cheese” strategy currently available for Excavatron in Crimson Desert. It does require a lot of arrows, but the fight becomes much simpler because players can avoid most incoming damage by keeping their distance.
