A new report suggests Nintendo is planning its next big showcase to land right around the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 release. According to journalist Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe, the company is preparing to roll out a major Nintendo Switch 2 Direct event alongside the launch of its next-gen console.
While Nintendo has not officially announced dates for the hardware or the presentation, we can expect the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct sometime around early June. That lines up with the release date announced by Nintendo, expected on June 5. Which means we might be seeing new games, hardware information, and maybe even another Mario with a new hat before Halloween decorations start hitting store shelves.
Historically, Nintendo has been consistent with their summer showcases, except last year, when they waited until June 21 to roll out the goods. So, a late summer Nintendo Switch 2 Direct would follow that same pattern, giving them just enough time to generate hype, show off gameplay footage, and maybe throw in a surprise port or two (we see you, Wind Waker).
What’s particularly interesting this time around is the sheer weight this Direct might carry. Nintendo hasn’t released new hardware in years, and anticipation for the Nintendo Switch 2 release is high. Whether it’s improved visuals, faster load times, or finally fixing those pesky Joy-Con drift issues, expectations are pretty high.
Still, it’s all just smoke until Nintendo lights the fire itself. The company remains silent on the official details, but behind the scenes, all signs point to a stellar launch. Given its track record of well-timed announcements and last-minute surprises, the odds of a Direct syncing up with the Nintendo Switch 2 release feel higher than catching a shiny Pokémon with a regular Poké Ball. Hopefully, this will be some big announcements for the new console, not just remasters like the previous reveals showed.
