Developers of Assassin’s Creed Shadows managed to disappoint fans once again in typical Ubisoft fashion. If you see Assassin’s Creed Shadows online trending on your feed, it means that the upcoming action-adventure game requires an online connection to install. Pre-orders for the game are now available following the Assassin’s Creed Shadows trailer, which features black samurai called Yasuke. That’s not all, the trailer also announced Assassin’s Creed Shadows release date, which is November 15, 2024.
With the all hype around the new Assassin’s Creed on social media, fans of the iconic franchise were left with mixed feelings once Ubisoft dropped the bombshell via the box art for the game, which included a message stating that an internet connection is needed to install it.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Online
This Assassin’s Creed Shadows online requirement is similar to other Ubisoft games like Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and the upcoming Star Wars Outlaws.
In Avatar’s case, players needed an internet connection to download a day one patch before they could start playing. While many players are almost always connected online, this requirement raises concerns about the game’s future if its servers are shut down.
In March, Ubisoft announced that it was “decommissioning” the online-only game The Crew due to server infrastructure and licensing issues. This move has sparked discussions about the lack of legal requirements for game companies to support older products.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Trailer
Ubisoft has fully revealed the Assassin’s Creed Shadows trailer. The latest chapter of the iconic franchise is set in 1579’s feudal Japan with dual protagonists. The near-four-minute trailer introduces players to the game’s two protagonists: the stealthy shinobi Naoe and the action-oriented Yasuke, a real figure from Japanese history. Shadows is solely single-player, but players can switch between the two characters at will. Check out the trailer below:
Who is This Mysterious Black Samurai?
Yasuke is Japan’s first Black samurai and is the first real historical person to be playable in an Assassin’s Creed game. Although you may have seen him in the Netflix anime series, Yasuke’s life before becoming a samurai is shrouded in mystery. He was likely born in West Africa and was enslaved as a child. He later became a mercenary and traveled to Japan with an Italian Jesuit missionary, where he stunned the locals with his height and appearance.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Release Date
With the trailer, we also got a release date as Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set to launch on November 15, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, PC, and Amazon Luna.
