Persona 4 remake

Persona 4 Remake Hinted at by Original Voice Actor’s Absence

The long-speculated Persona 4 remake may be more than just a rumor, as original voice actor Yuri Lowenthal, known for voicing Yosuke Hanamura, recently indicated he won’t be reprising his role.  In a candid post on Bluesky (now unavailable), Lowenthal shared that despite his interest, Atlus has chosen not to bring him back for the project. Originally released in 2008 on the PlayStation 2, Persona 4 has since become a beloved entry in the series, with subsequent releases on platforms like PS3 and PC.

“And for those who keep asking, no, I will not be returning as Yosuke for the Persona 4 remake. I asked. Maybe I even begged, but they don’t want me to come back,” Lowenthal wrote.

While Atlus has not officially announced a Persona 4 remake, Lowenthal’s statement adds weight to ongoing speculation.  The decision to recast roles mirrors the approach taken with Persona 3 Reload, which featured an entirely new voice cast upon its release in 2024.

The potential Persona 4 remake would follow Atlus’s recent trend of revisiting classic titles, as seen with Persona 3 Reload.  Fans are eager to see how a remake would enhance the original’s gameplay and visuals while preserving its unique charm.

The Persona community is already discussing what a Persona 4 Remake might look like. Would the art style shift to match Persona 5’s slick UI? Could the dungeon crawling be modernized like Persona 3 Reload? And will platforms like Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch be included? Some even wonder if Atlus is planning a full “Persona Remaster Initiative,” bringing classic titles into the modern era. Either way, Lowenthal’s absence feels like more than a coincidence; it feels like a signal.

Lowenthal’s revelation is a compelling hint that the Persona 4 remake is indeed in development.  Whether or not original cast members return, the prospect of revisiting Inaba with updated graphics and mechanics is still going to be great.
