Diablo 4 patch notes for Season 5 in PTR are out prior to its live release. Only in the Player Test Realm, the new update houses a bunch of new features, and most exciting, a new survival game mode with new weapons, other rewards and more, which is discussed in detail below.
Diablo 4 Season 5 Infernal Horde Game Mode
The survival mode, termed as infernal horde, can be entered by using Infernal Compasses that are dropped by defeating Endgame Bosses, Helltides, Nightmare Dungeons, and Whispers, with a total of 3 different tiers that can be dropped. The Infernal Compasses can be further upgraded by using Abyssal Scrolls, all the way till tier 8.
In this new game mode, you are to fight against waves of hordes that last 90 seconds, with 3 different Infernal Offers after each wave which gives you multiple perks like sacrificing your total number of revives for better loot among others. The numbers of waves change according to the tier of Infernal Compass used. Tier 1-3 will have 5 waves, and successive tiers will cause the number of waves to increase until the maximum number of 10 waves using a Tier 8 Infernal Compass.
When players clear all the waves, they will then battle with the fell council, who are the boss of this new game mode. Defeating these bosses will allow you to use Burning Aether, a resource acquired by defeating the enemies during the Infernal Horde waves. You will be able to unlock different spoils of hell; Spoils of Greater Equipment, Spoils of Equipment, Spoils of Materials, and Spoils of Gold.
