Ubisoft’s mysterious title, the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Hexe, appears to be facing internal challenges, with reports indicating that 50 developers have left the unannounced project. In addition, game director Benoit Richer recently announced his departure in a LinkedIn post. This is the second significant exit from the title’s development team this year, following creative director Clint Hocking’s departure in February. Jean Guesdon, Assassin’s Creed’s head of content, has since stepped into that role.
“Mobility across teams is a standard part of how we operate. As project priorities change, team members may transition from one project to another where their expertise is needed, helping us stay flexible and responsive as work evolves”, Ubisoft said in an official statement.
It’s worth noting that these developers haven’t been let go from Ubisoft entirely. Instead, they have been moved to Ubisoft’s Interproject team, which, as the name suggests, supports staff between projects. According to sources, members of this team have 3 months to find a new assignment within Ubisoft, or they will be laid off.
This casts a veil of doubt over the upcoming project and the creative team’s possible lack of confidence in the game. However, not all hope is lost for Ubisoft’s future, especially after the recent gameplay reveal of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. Scheduled for release on July 9, the remake aims to deliver a faithful recreation of the beloved pirate-themed game, with Ubisoft actively considering player feedback for further enhancements.

Assassin’s Creed Hexe Faces Uncertainty After Major Departures
It still remains to be seen whether these departures signal trouble for Assassin’s Creed Hexe. The success of the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake may also play a role in shaping player sentiment, especially after the fairly lukewarm response to Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The loss of 50 developers, along with both the game director and creative director, suggests that development has been turbulent and may not be progressing as originally planned.
For now, there is no official release date for Assassin’s Creed Hexe, and details about the project remain limited to only a single logo. The title was first announced in 2022 alongside Assassin’s Creed Infinity and Assassin’s Creed Shadows. At the time, franchise vice executive producer Marc-Alexis Côté described Hexe as a new flagship title and a very different type of Assassin’s Creed game.
