While Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3’s release date and official title still remain a mystery, director Naoki Hamaguchi has already completed over 40 full playthroughs. In a recent interview with Nintendo Life, Hamaguchi hinted that the release of the third and final installment of Final Fantasy 7 Remake might be a lot closer than we originally thought.
Hamaguchi shared that the team is “very excited about how the game is progressing.” While he avoided giving away too much about the trilogy’s highly anticipated conclusion, he hinted that development is nearing the finish line. “I have already completed over 40 full playthroughs,” he said. “I can’t wait for as many people as possible to experience the game for themselves, and myself and the team are working hard to ensure we can create an unforgettable gameplay experience.”
This implies that the game’s development is further along than anyone could have guessed. 40 playthroughs means that many, if not most, of the game’s systems are already in place.
Hamaguchi also discussed the challenge of expanding the Final Fantasy 7 Remake into a trilogy while remaining true to the original. He explained, “The greatest challenge was thoughtfully evaluating, title by title, how far to push ‘nostalgia’ and ‘innovation’ respectively, so they could work in balance”.
He further added that for longtime fans, what matters most isn’t just the story, but the relationships between the characters and the emotions they experience as they explore this world. For new players, the team needed to update the presentation and design to fit today’s standards, so the experience would still connect. That’s why Square Enix chose modern visuals while keeping the emotional character bonds that made the original so memorable.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Release Date Still Pending, But Fans Have Reason To Be Excited
As Hamaguchi puts it, “For me, Final Fantasy 7 is a truly special title that I’ve deeply admired, even as a creator. Because of that, I’ve always carried the belief that this remake series must live up to the expectations of fans who have continued to show their love for FFVII”.
