Just like Finding Marika in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, For Whom the Bell Tolls in KCD 2 is an interesting quest. Before figuring out the right ending of the game, you need to complete this quest because one of the main characters could die. Henry and Hans always seem to find themselves in trouble. After sneaking into a wedding in Semine, they discover that Von Bergow never shows up. Things take a turn for the worse when they get into a brawl and end up in jail. While Henry is forced to work, Hans faces a death sentence for poaching.
Though not to worry, here’s how to save Sir Hans and complete For Whom the Bell Tolls in KCD 2.
For Whom the Bell Tolls in KCD 2

Once you’re released from jail, your first task is to deliver three Charcoal Sacks to the shed. To save Hans, you need to meet with Sir Thomas, who is located at the top of the tower. Before you head up, talk to the blacksmith. He’ll ask you to make a horseshoe.
While near the forge, you’ll meet a woman named Fanka who is complaining about locks. Talk to her, and she’ll tell you to find the blacksmith. He’s not very helpful but will mention that you can grab a lock pick from a small red jar in the forge. You’ll need this later. You can also help Fanka and loot the items in the chest nearby.
After you unlock the chest, follow these steps to meet Sir Thomas and save Hans:
- Go up the stairs until you find a door.
- Go through the door and walk past the storeroom.
- Climb up another set of stairs.
- Ignore the door and keep climbing.
- In the next room, you’ll see a guard.
- Distract the guard with a stone and continue up the stairs.
- Keep climbing until you reach the highest room.
How to Get Medicine for Sir Thomas

Sir Thomas is sick, and you need to heal him to save Hans in the For Whom the Bell Tolls in KCD 2 quest. After talking to his sister, head back to the courtyard. The alchemy table is in another building marked on your map. However, there’s a guard blocking your way, and he won’t move until he gets some food.
To get past him, go into the room beneath the wooden stairs. This area has bathtubs, but more importantly, you can find two dried trout. Give the trout to the guard and wait for him to leave before climbing up the stairs.
Continue heading up until you find a red door. Enter the first room on your right, where you’ll meet Katherine. She’s trying to unlock a chest and won’t bother you. You can lock-pick the chest to get the ingredients for the potion. Don’t forget to grab the Physician’s Journal on the shelf to your left. Reading it will unlock the fever tonic recipe.
How to Brew Fever Tonic

Since Sir Thomas has a fever, you need to make a tonic to lower it so he can help save Hans. Here’s how to brew the fever tonic in the For Whom the Bell Tolls in KCD 2 quest:
- Pour wine into the cauldron as the base.
- Add three handfuls of feverfew.
- Boil the mixture for two turns.
- Grind and add one handful of elderberry.
- Add two handfuls of ginger.
- Distill the potion and pour it into a phial.
Once you have the fever tonic, head back to Sir Thomas. Be prepared to deal with the guards again. After you enter the room, a cutscene will play, marking the end of For Whom the Bell Tolls in KCD 2.
