Knowledge and Mastery points are key to unlocking new abilities. While you can earn both by completing activities in the game, they serve different purposes in the skill trees.

Knowledge points help you increase your Knowledge ranks in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. There are six tiers of Knowledge ranks that you unlock as you progress. Each tier gives you access to new abilities in the skill trees. When you unlock a Knowledge rank, it applies to all skill trees for both Yasuke and Naoe, making it easier to expand your character’s skills.

Mastery points, on the other hand, are used to unlock specific ability nodes within those Knowledge ranks in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Some abilities might only need one Mastery point, while others could require five to seven points, depending on how powerful they are.

Gaining Mastery points is pretty straightforward. You mainly earn them by leveling up your character. You can also get Mastery points by completing open-world challenges or defeating tough enemies like the Samurai Daishō in castles. Additionally, finishing various side quests in Assassin’s Creed Shadows will also reward you with Mastery points.

To earn Knowledge points, you’ll need to focus on side activities marked with an orange hexagon on your map. These activities include:

  • Collecting scrolls in temples
  • Praying at shrines
  • Meditating at Kuji-Kiri spots as Naoe
  • Competing in horse archery as Yasuke

Completing each of these activities gives you one Knowledge point. You’ll need a certain number of Knowledge points to unlock the next Knowledge rank in the skill trees for both characters. Remember, Knowledge and Mastery points are shared between Yasuke and Naoe, so it doesn’t matter which character you play as in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
