The Halo series has been on hiatus for a while now, and a recent leak suggests that remakes of Halo 2 and Halo 3 are not only greenlit but are already in active development. According to Rebs Gaming, who revealed in an update over the weekend that “two more sources” have confirmed, “Halo Studios is developing remakes of Halo 2 and Halo 3“.
“One of my new sources sent me proof to verify themselves and that the trilogy remakes are definitely happening,” he said. “More specifically, active development is underway on all three remakes, and the Halo 2 and 3 remakes are in early development”.
As per these sources, the Halo: Combat Evolved remake will incorporate elements from Halo 2 and Halo 3, such as Brutes appearing in brand-new prequel missions. On top of that, it also seems like Halo Studios is working on a fresh multiplayer project and the next big Halo game, all alongside these remakes. Which could possibly mean a thorough revival of the Halo IP.
Last October, Halo Studios revealed it had several Halo projects in the pipeline, all being built in Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5. The first to be announced was Halo: Campaign Evolved, a full remake of the original game’s campaign, set to arrive in 2026 for Xbox, PlayStation 5, and PC. While we don’t have an official release date yet, Microsoft has confirmed that the game is still planned for this year.

Halo 2 and Halo 3 Remakes May Set the Stage For A New Sequel
Even though it’s been a while since a new Halo installment, the fanbase remains enthusiastic about the game’s protagonist, Master Chief, making a comeback. If these leaks are accurate, remakes could be an effective way to renew interest in the franchise and potentially pave the way for a future sequel.
According to Xbox’s new CEO, there are plans to revive Xbox exclusives. Given Halo’s longstanding reputation as a strong console seller, this move suggests a return to the company’s roots, which could be a positive development for Xbox.
